Meal Charge Policy

It is the student’s responsibility to be self-responsible for their account and the parent’s responsibility to keep a positive meal balance in their student(s) account.

Cashiers make every effort to notify students of low and negative account balances.  Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the parents to monitor their student(s) meal account balance.  This can be done through the parent portal of Power School or through the schools’ online payment program; www.myschoolbucks.com

If you have applied for free or reduced price meals and have a "Pending" application, it is your responsibility to pay for all school meals until you receive an Approval Letter.

If your financial situation has changed you may qualify for free or reduced lunch assistance.   Meal assistance applications can be found on the School Town of Munster web site or at your students’ school office.

 Elementary Charge Policy:

We strongly discourage meal charges, but we understand that an occasional emergency sometimes makes it necessary at the elementary level.  Because we care for the well-being of our students, no student will be denied a meal and no lunch tray will ever be taken from a student.

Students may be offered an alternative meal (cheese sandwich, fruit and carton of milk) until their negative balance is paid in full.

Elementary students are limited to $10.00 in unpaid meal charges for breakfast/lunches.

A student with a negative student meal amount is NOT allowed to purchase any ala carte items, including milk.

A student that chooses to bring a sack lunch from home may purchase a carton of milk. If there are no funds in the student's meal account, they may charge ONE carton of milk. If a student has a negative meal account balance, they will be offered a cup for drinking water.

To notify parents that they have a negative balance, (Pink slips) are sent home every Wednesday. These slips show the negative balance in the student's meal account and the payment is expected the next school day.

The School Town of Munster Food Service Department also sends letters home and email alerts out every Friday to students with negative balances.

It is the responsibility of the parents to monitor their student(s) meal account balance.  This can be done through the parent portal of Power School or through the schools’ online payment program www.myschoolbucks.com

This website offers a parent to set up a "low balance notification" email reminder for your convenience.

 Middle School Charge Policy:

Wilbur Wright Middle School allows for ONE reimbursable lunch to be charged to the students meal account.  Because we care for the well-being of your student if money is not received the next day for their negative balance meal account, they will be offered an alternative meal (cheese sandwich, fruit and milk) until their negative balance is paid in full. The cashiers are prompted to remind the students of their low balance starting at $5.00. A student with a negative amount is not allowed to purchase any ala cart e items, including milk. Parents can check their student's meal purchases and balances free of charge by setting up an account at www.myschoolbucks.com

On this website a "low balance notification" email reminder can be set up for your convenience.

 High School Students:

At the high school level student(s) are expected to take responsibility of their meal accounts.

Students at Munster High School are NOT allowed to charge meals or any ala carte purchases. The cashiers are prompted to remind the students of their low meal balance starting at $5.00. Parents may check their student's meal purchases and balances free of charge by setting up an account at www.myschoolbucks.com.

On this website a "low balance notification" email reminder can be set up for your convenience.
